I am a full-time freelance commercial, editorial and fine art photographer based in Portland, Maine. I shoot for a variety of local and national publications and organizations. My work is fueled by a passion for the place I live, a curiosity about almost all things and anĀ irrepressibleĀ desire to make beautiful images. There are few things more satisfying to me than an assignment in which I’ve interacted with a person or place I may have never otherwise met or encountered, and learned something fascinating about them/it, life or the universe in the process.
I particularly love shooting local food, restaurants and farms. The food scene in Maine has grown exponentially since I moved here from Washington, D.C., five years ago to the point where it has become a food destination. The trend toward using locally grown food keeps growing and I’m enjoying documenting this trend through my work. I’m a sucker for beautiful raw vegetables and freshly picked fruit, which I photograph at every opportunity. I also love documenting chefs at work. There’s nothing like watching those pans and flames fly on a busy night! Since I love food, cooking and gardening, food photography has become a natural and fulfilling part of my work.
My other photographic passion is the landscape. Maine has served me well in this regard. Who could ask for a more intriguing place to take landscape photos? The rocky coasts, smooth beaches, and lush forests and fields provide ample opportunity for intriguing shots. I love the mystery of the fog, the quiet beauty of the early morning and late evening light and the stillness brought by blankets upon blankets of snow. My fine art work has appeared in numerous juried shows throughout the country.
Hope you’ll check on my blog from time to time to see where assignments and life adventures have taken me! Thanks for looking and reading. More of my work can be found on my web site.
